Infographic: Color Use in Retail Brands
My self-directed project for Color Workshop studied the influence of demographics on retail brand colors. A survey of 75 brands revealed that black and white is the most popular – 45% of the retailers used this combination. Within that, all of the luxury retailers use black and white, while no discount brands do. In fact, discount and lower-middle market brands were the most colorful.

My findings were summarized in an infographic, which raised some interesting questions. Why do luxury brands shun color? Do different colors attract different types of shoppers? Can color actually change shopping behavior? Why do brands competing for the same demographic want to look the same?
